If you’re a pregnant teenager you’ve probably fretted about how to tell your boyfriend. Firstly, remember that you are your own person and nobody can force you to do anything you don’t want to do. What happens with the pregnancy is your choice, nobody else’s.
Anticipate all possible reactions and how you will react to them. Don’t plan out an entire speech, including his reactions, but make sure that if he has any questions or if he starts verbally attacking you then you know what you’ll say to him.
Set a good time to tell him. For instance, it’s not a good time when he’s already stressed out or angry. Make sure that there’s minimal distractions around so he can fully focus on what you’re saying.
Start positively. If you start out the conversation on a negative tone such as ‘i have some bad news’ then he will react in a negative way as well.
Keep calm in the face of his anger. He might yell, scream, rant, but you shouldn’t react in anger as well. You have had more time to think it through and he needs the same consideration. Just because he says right now that he doesn’t want the baby doesn’t mean when he’s calmed down he might not change his mind.
Wait until you’ve both calmed down to discuss your options. You’re probably both stressed out after telling him and so you should both be calm before deciding anything. Don’t make rash decisions, especially concerning the baby, that you will regret later.
Tell him how you feel. If you feel that you wish to have the child then talk to him and ask him what he thinks about it. If you wish to give the child up for adoption ask him how he feels about that too. Or, if you do not wish to have a child at all, discuss abortion.
