Some people bound straight out of bed and are wide awake and raring to go. But, many people wake up grouchy, sleepy and need their caffeine boost before they can even begin to think about the day ahead. If you’d love to be one of those people that can get up early and make the most of the morning, then read these ten tips on how you can become a morning person and love those first few hours of the day:
1. If you want to be bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning – get more sleep!
Our first tip on how to become a morning person is to get enough sleep. There is no way that you are going to be bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning, if you’ve only had three hours sleep! Get into to a regular sleep routine, that gives you, at least, seven hours sleep a night, and you will feel much better in the mornings.
2. Don’t take naps in the daytime
Sticking to your sleep routine is important, even on days off. A long lie in on Sunday morning or a Sunday afternoon nap, will probably mean that you don’t sleep properly Sunday night, so Monday you will wake up tired again.
3. Forget the snooze button!
Another good tip on how to become a morning person is to avoid using the snooze button. It’s tempting to get just a few minutes more in bed, but, overall, that will only make you feel more tired when you do eventually get up. Get up at the first ring of the alarm and you will feel a whole lot better for it.
4. Get moving as soon as you get up
Once you’re up, get yourself moving straight away. Splash some cold water on your face and drink a glass of water to get you going. The sooner you start moving around, the sooner you, and your body, will wake up.
5. Get some natural light and fresh air, it will fill you with pure energy and positivity
Don’t mope around the half dark, open a window and let the light and air get in, or go for a ten minute walk outside. The fresh air and natural light are great for waking you up; a few deep breaths and you’ll be away!
6. Work out every morning
Another tip on how to become a morning person is to exercise every morning. A workout will refresh you and sweep away the last cobwebs of sleep. A workout will get your joints moving again and it will release hormones in your body that will wake you up and make you feel good about the morning.
7. Make a list of exciting things you have to look forward to
Everyone needs something to look forward to, if they are going to get any enthusiasm for the day ahead, so another useful tip on how to become a morning person is to make a quick list of what you are looking forward to today and it will help to spur you on.
8. Make your mornings productive and fun
A big mistake that many people make in the mornings is that they don’t see it as a time to get anything done. If you wake up, shower, get dressed and get down to a bit of work, or check out the news, and don’t forget to dance a little, it will feel more like the day has started.
9. Eat a healthy breakfast that will give you the energy you need
Never skip breakfast because that is a sure way to make yourself feel tired for the rest of the morning. Eat a breakfast that will be light bit that will give you the energy you need first thing in the morning. Things like grains, fruit and smoothie, will give you the energy to see you through until lunch.
10. Make your bedroom the place for sleeping
If you watch the TV in bed, or use laptops and mobile phones, it can actually affect the quality of your sleep. Get your body into the routine of knowing that the bedroom means sleep, and you will sleep sounder and wake up feeling fresher.
