A great meal always finishes up with a little something sweet. If you’re worried that a sweet finish is bad for your body, these recipes should ease your concern. They are great as dessert and also as refreshing treats-especially on a hot summer day.

1. Cucumber and honeydew shake

  • 1 cup of 2% milk
  • 1 chilled cucumber, peeled and sliced
  • 1 half honeydew melon, also peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped mint
  • 1/2 cup of ice

Put the milk, cucumber slices, honeydew melon chunks and the mint in a blender. Turn on the blender and add the ice while it is running. Serve in tall glass with a little mint and cucumber on the side as a garnish.

2. Strawberry and banana shake

  • 1 cup of 2% milk
  • 1 whole chilled banana, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 7 chilled strawberries
  • 1/2 cup of ice
  • 1 tablespoon of whipped cream

Blend all of the ingredients except the ice together in a blender, adding the ice later as the blender is running. Serve strawberry banana shake with a dollop of whipped cream on top.

3. Orange and vanilla shake

  • 1 cup of 2% milk
  • 1 orange, peeled and sectioned
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla
  • 1/2 cup of ice
  • 1 tablespoon of whipped cream

4. Peaches and cream shake

  • 1 cup of 2% milk
  • 1 cup of peach slices or use whole peaches, peeled, pitted and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla
  • 1/2 cup of ice
  • 1 tablespoon of whipped cream

If you prefer, serve this one with chopped pecans stirred into it.

Other combinations you might try include: pineapple and mango, kiwi strawberry or banana and cream. You can control the thickness of your shake by adding more or less milk. You could also use non-fat milk and whipped cream or vanilla soymilk as a substitute.
