A new website that supposedly uses advanced algorithms to analyze and guess the age of people in photographs yields mixed results.
To be fair, how-old.net started as a side project among Microsoft engineers. They explain their methods here, and some results are pretty impressive. Thanks to the magic of Microsoft’s application program interfaces, the program analyzes and compares facial features to take a guess at the age and gender of the person (or people) in a photo. After uploading a picture, the site takes just a few seconds to yield a result. Some results, though, are a bit baffling.
Daniel Radcliffe – actually 11 years old at the time, also not a woman
Haley Joel Osmont is actually 27 years old in real life – but he was, like, 10 when this picture was taken
Axl Rose is apparently no spring chicken

The site recognizes some, but not all, the cast members of ‘Too Many Cooks’

If you want to check it out for yourself, head over to how-old.net – and don’t be offended if it thinks you’re older than you really are!
